Spectrum Racing & NADS Family Movie Day Event a Big Success

This past Saturday October 15th, 5th Avenue Construction proudly hosted its first family day movie event for the non-profit organizations Spectrum Racing NFP and the National Association for Down Syndrome. We’re happy to say it was an incredible success!

A Spectacular Sensory Friendly Family Movie Day

The family movie day event was hosted at the Hollywood Palms Cinema in Naperville, Illinois—a one-of-a-kind movie watching venue that features highly decorated theaters with specific movie themes that makes for an unforgettable experience.

Spectrum Racing NFP and the National Association for Down Syndrome (NADS) collaborated with us to bring this event into fruition for the children, adults, and families of those with autism and Down syndrome. The movie day featured the newly released Lyle, Lyle Crocodile and was chosen for its family and sensory friendly content. Admission was free to all attendees and were also provided a free popcorn, beverage, and candy to enjoy during the screening.

Family movie day events like this one provide a judgement-free and safe space for the moviegoers and their families to fully enjoy the film without interruption.

Fundraiser and a Lego® Raffle

On the days leading up to the event, we had a call for donations to Spectrum Racing and NADS to assist them in raising funds for the autism and Down syndrome communities. Anyone who donated was automatically entered to win one of two Lego® sets. We also allowed for additional donations and entries on the day of the event. After the movie, the two lucky and very excited winners were selected.

Spectrum Racing NFP & the National Association for Down Syndrome’s Missions

Spectrum Racing NFP was founded by a group of multi-sport athletes, including our very own Patrick Timmons, with the mission to spread awareness and raise funds for the autism community by organizing events like multi-sport races, raffles, movies, training sessions and more. Learn more about Spectrum Racing here.

The National Association for Down Syndrome is the oldest organization in the US who serve individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Their mission is to support all persons with Down syndrome to help them achieve their full potential.

They provide families with Down syndrome members with resources and information to help them access helpful services, educate the public about Down syndrome, and much more. Learn more about NADS here.
